Rutgers freshman Emily Mason and Reilly Tiernan were invited to attend training camp for the U-20 US Women's National Team Training Camp. The week-long camp will take place at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, California, running from Dec. 7-14. The U-20 USWNT is preparing for next year's Concacaf U-20 Women's Championship which is set for Feb. 25-March 12 in the Dominican Republic.
According to scarletknights.com, Mason and Tiernan are two of four players selected to attend the camp, who participated in last week's College Cup Final Four.
"Mason jumped into collegiate play strong as the 2019-20 Gatorade National Player of the Year and back-to-back Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year. The defender started 18 of 25 matches, including the last eight through the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA College Cup run. She aided the team in 13 shutouts on the season, holding all opponents to single-digit shots on goal and 14 to four or less shots on goal. Mason has represented the USWNT at the U14, U16, U18 and U20 levels, helping the U-20 USWNT win the 2020 Concacaf U-20 Women's Championship. The team took home the title with a dominant performance in the Dominican Republic, rattling off seven straight victories and a 44-1 goal differential.
"Tiernan made a statement in her first collegiate season, capturing Big Ten Freshman of the Year accolades. The forward started all 25 matches and led the team with 13 assists, matching a single-season record for the program. She finished third on the team in total points (29), adding in eight goals and a game winner. Tiernan's performance ignited a Rutgers offense that out scored opponents 64-17 on the year. The Voorhees, New Jersey, native earned All-Big Ten First Team, Big Ten All-Freshman Team, and All-Region First Team honors as a rookie," as posted via press release on the Rutgers Athletics page.
