After ripping off three straight wins to open the season, Rutgers Women’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season against Stony Brook on Tuesday. Lasha Petree was the only Scarlet Knight to score in double digits with 15 points as the rest of the team struggled from the field.

The Scarlet Knights shot 14 of 53 (26%) from the field and 3 of 14 (21%) from three. It was close through the first half but the third quarter is where Stony Brook used a 16-8 scoring advantage to take control of the game.

Despite a strong fourth quarter from the Scarlet Knights scoring 15 points they came up short in the end. Now all focus will be on Harvard Friday night.

Harvard comes to the Jersey Mike’s Arena with a record of 1-2 winning their first game last weekend against Northern Illinois University 70-53.

Three players scored in double digits Maggie McCarthy led scorers with 16 points, McKenzie Forbes had 15 and Lola Mullaney scored 10 points and flirted with a double-double with nine rebounds. The player to keep your eye on for Harvard is Forbes. She posted 20 points and had a near triple double in their loss to UMass.

Through the first four games of the season, Rutgers has finished games strong.

Against St. Peter’s and South Alabama they have scored 20 points and against Fairfield and Stony Brook they scored 15. The great thing about this Rutgers team is how deep they are. So far there has been a different starting lineup each game. All games have had at least 10 players scoring. Scoring has come at a premium with five Scarlet Knights averaging at least 5.3 points per game.

The Scarlet Knights look to get back in the win column against Harvard Friday night at 7.
