Rutgers Men’s Soccer gear up for Big Ten Tournament
Rutgers Men’s Soccer kicks-off the Big Ten tournament at Indiana on Sunday afternoon in hopes to follow in the footsteps of the women’s team, who have advanced all the way to the Big 10 Championship game.
A sixth seed in the tournament, Rutgers completed a 9-5-2 regular season, capped off by a 4-0 shutout victory over Ohio State in the regular season finale.
Leading the way this season on the offensive charge for the Scarlet Knights is junior Jackson Temple, who has six goals on the season.
In fact Temple along with graduate student defender Vincent Borden were named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. Freshman midfielder Matthew Acosta was a unanimous choice for the All-Big Ten Freshman Team, and freshman defender Joey Zalinsky earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. Ola Maeland was has been named Rutgers’ Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.
According to Scarletknights.com, “The 2021 awards mark the first time Rutgers has had multiple All-Conference winners (first or second team) since 2015. The Scarlet Knights also have multiple selections to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team for just the second time since joining the conference in 2014.”
Meanwhile Oran Asher has done it all in net for the Knights. in 15 games, Asher has posted a record of 9-4-2, while recording a microsopic 0.96 goals against average.
Rutgers last faced Indiana back in September to kick-off the Big Ten regular season; a matchup Rutgers won 2-1, with goals from Jackson Temple and Nico Rosamilia. It was a slight upset on the road as Indiana was ranked No. 11 at the time.
