RUTGERS 2 - IOWA 0

The Scarlet Knights just keep on rolling.

The Women's Soccer team shutout the Iowa Hawkeyes 2-0 in front of 2,100 screaming fans in Piscataway, Thursday afternoon to advance to the Big 10 Title Game, which will take place on Sunday, November 7 at 2 p.m. at Yurcak Field. The opponent will be the winner of the Michigan-Purdue semi-final.

After a scoreless first half where both the Scarlet  Knights and the Hawkeyes managed only two shots a piece, Rutgers exploded offensively in the second half.

In the 66th minute, Allison Lowry took a feed from across the penalty area from Riley Tiernan, and slammed it home on one shot, as the ball scooted past Iowa goalie Macy Enneking to give Rutgers a 1-0 lead.

Later in the 81st minute, Amirah Ali connected on her ninth goal of the season when she slapped the ball past two defenders into the back of the net to make  it 2-0. Ali now ranks third all time on Rutgers' career charts in points and in goals (41).

Overall, Rutgers would attempt 11 shots in the second half, to just four by Iowa.  Since Rutgers pressed Iowa so much with their offense, it was a quiet day on the other side of the field for Meagan McClelland, who recorded her 11th shutout of the season with three saves.

The mega sports weekend continues for Rutgers. Not only will women's soccer play in the Big 10 Title Game on Sunday, but field hockey and men's soccer are in their own Big 10 Tournaments. Football will host Wisconsin on Saturday, and, did we mention basketball beings next week?
