Is There Hope For The Upcoming Mario Movie?
By Jered Eastmond
Ever since Nintendo announced during their late September Nintendo Direct, that they would be partnering with Illumination to make a fully animated Mario movie. The internet has gone wild with debates and controversy over a number of topics involving the film.
It’s no secret that some are unhappy with the choices made by Nintendo for their casting of the Mario movie, specifically with the roles give to the two iconic Italian brothers Mario and Luigi. With their roles being given to Chris Pratt and Charlie Day respectively. However is there a chance that they will be able to hold up to the roles they have been given?
There is word that Charles Martinet will be a part of the project, but his exact role in the film remains a mystery, but one thing is clear. The actors will have a great resources as Mr. Martinet has had a long career in voice for not only Mario and Luigi, but many other iconic characters for Nintendo as well as other games such as Skyrim’s Paarthurnax, but what about the chances of the movie doing well overall?
Ever since the original Mario movie came out in 1993 tilted, Super Mario Bros, video game movies as well as the movie industry in general has grown by leaps and bounds as seen by the wild success of the Sonic movie. However it wasn’t always that way, with older movies based off the video game industry either preforming poorly or just not being that good. With some projects being scrapped before they can even reach the big screen, like the Slyfox movie.
However, this could be the chance for video game movies to show with the right setting, it can prosper like all the other movies, but until then the Mario movie is set to releases in theaters December 21st 2022 days before the holiday weekend.
