Despite falling short in the playoffs for the fourth straight season, and despite pleas from Yankees' fans for a new direction, the Bronx Bombers are indeed bringing back Aaron Boone as manager for the 2022 season and beyond.

The Yankees and Boone agreed to a three-year deal that will take him through the 2024 season. There is also a club option for 2025.

Boone went 328-218 in four seasons at the helm of the Yankees, all without reaching the World Series. The closest he got the Yanks to the Fall Classic, they lost in six games to the Houston Astros in 2019 ALCS.

This past season, in a year where the Yankees were either beset by injuries or underperforming All-Stars, they sat at .500 on the 4th of July, before winning 51 of their final 80 games to get into the playoffs as the second wild card. The Yanks would lose the wild card game to the Boston Red Sox.

Boston, by the way is on the precipice of another huge October run, they lead the Astros 2-1 in the best-of-seven ALCS.

The last time the Yankees allowed a manager to go into his fifth season at the top step of the dugout without at least a World Series victory was 1922.

The players certainly have Boone's back. Aaron Judge was quoted as saying after the season concluded:

"It's been a pleasure the past couple of years to play for him and fight for him every single day. I could spend all night giving you reasons why he should still be the manager."

As for the fans, especially on Twitter,  let's just say the majority is not too thrilled.

Bottom line is the Yankees were a playoff team the past four seasons with Boone in charge at the top step of the dugout. In today's baseball world that is dominated by analytics, it is on the front office to field a squad for the 2022 season that can get over the hump in October.
