NORTHWESTERN 21 - RUTGERS 7

Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano was blunt, honest and direct following his football team's 21-7 loss to Northwestern on Saturday.

“It’s very disappointing,” he said. “We certainly have to assess where we are and why we’re here, and see what we can do to fix it. Some of it is personnel, some of it is execution. We’re trying to find an answer.”

And they will have plenty of time to do so; a bye week is coming up this week. The next time the Scarlet Knights hit the field will be October 30 at Illinois.

The Scarlet Knights were hit with 11 penalties, including one for unsportsmanlike conduct for sideline interference. All while Northwestern quarterback Ryan Hillinski tore up RU's secondary for 267 yards and two passing touchdowns through the air.

Overall, Northwestern had 402 yards of total offense, including 135 yards on the ground against Rutgers.

After Malik Washington's 64-yard catch-and-run for a score in the first quarter, Rutgers tied the game in the second quarter on a long, 97-yard scoring drive when Bo Melton caught an 18-yard pass from Noah Verdal. Verdal finished with 152-yards through the air.

After starting the season 3-0, Rutgers has dropped four in a row.
