The 70-year-old actress, singer and Miss World USA 1972 winner tweeted, "I can’t tell you how many times I have heard that young queer kids used to do the Wonder Woman spin when they were closeted. Whether you’re out and proud now or you’re still living with a secret identity, you are a superhero in my eyes. Happy National Coming Out Day 🏳️🌈"
One fan wrote, "Umm... yes. Young queer kids. Sometimes, I hear, even bears in their 50s. Not that I'd know...😉," to which Carter replied, "Back in the day, many of those bears were closeted cubs. And I loved them then, too.❤️"
Another fan wrote, "I’m glad you know the HUGE impact you have/had on us!🌈🏳️🌈🌈 I had your Barbie sized doll as a child, and she allowed me to act out how I really felt in a time it wasn’t safe to do so. My partner still has Wonder Woman EVERYTHING. From coffee mugs to clothing. 🖤Thank you Lynda!"
One fan said, "And this 52-year-old queer kid stills loves you!!! 😘🏳️🌈😘"
